Connect Cursor to PromptUnit
Two fields in a settings screen. No terminal, no code files, nothing to install.
Get your PromptUnit key
If you haven't already, sign up free at PromptUnit (no credit card). Once you're in, go to your Dashboard and open API Keys. Copy the key shown there, you'll paste it in a moment.
Open Cursor's settings
In Cursor, open Settings (the gear icon, or press Ctrl/Cmd + ,), then go to Models, then API Keys.
Turn on the override and paste two things
Find the toggle labeled "Override OpenAI Base URL" and switch it on. Two fields will appear:

your PromptUnit key from Step 1That's it, no other settings to change.
Keep coding normally
Use Cursor exactly like you did before, same chat, same commands. Every request now quietly passes through PromptUnit first. Simple questions and easy edits get sent to a cheaper model automatically, anything that needs real reasoning power stays on the strong model.
Watch your savings
Open your PromptUnit Dashboard any time to see exactly how much you've saved, request by request. If you signed up through the free trial, your first $5 in real savings costs nothing, no card needed.
If something doesn't look right
Double-check the toggle is switched on and both fields are filled in exactly as shown above, no extra spaces. If you're still stuck, reach out and we'll sort it out with you directly.
