How billing works

You pay 20% of what PromptUnit saves you. If it saves you nothing, you pay nothing. Here is exactly how that works, from your first request to your first charge.

The short version

  • Your first $5 of savings is free. Business accounts get $100. No card needed.
  • After that, we charge 20% of what we save you.
  • We charge once a week, on the same weekday, starting a week after you add your card.
  • If you owe less than $5 that week, nothing is charged. It rolls into the next week.

What counts as a saving

For every request, we compare two numbers. What you actually paid, using the model we picked. And what the same request would have cost on the model you asked for.

The difference is the saving. When we keep your model, the saving is $0. Prices come from each provider's official price list, and you can see the saving for every single request in your dashboard.

Your free savings

Every account starts with free savings: $5 for individual accounts and $100 for business accounts. We never bill this part, and you don't need a card while you use it.

When it's used up, add a card to keep saving. Without a card, savings pause and your app keeps working on the models you chose.

When you are charged

  1. You add a card. Your first charge day is exactly one week later.
  2. Once a week, on the same weekday, we add up what we saved you since the last charge.
  3. We take 20% of that. If it comes to $5 or more, we charge your card. If it's less, nothing is charged and it rolls into the next week.
  4. If we saved you nothing, you pay nothing.

Your Billing page always shows the date of your next charge. Charges run overnight, at midnight UTC.

Saved since the last chargeOur 20%On charge day
$0$0Nothing is charged.
$15$3Under $5, so nothing is charged. The $3 rolls into next week.
$35 (the $15 from last week, plus $20 this week)$7$7 is charged.
$60$12$12 is charged.

Your free savings come off once, from the first charge. Say you saved $45 before your first charge day on an individual account. The first $5 is free, so we charge 20% of the other $40, which is $8.

Why there is a $5 minimum

Card fees. A very small charge costs nearly as much to process as it is worth, and you would see many tiny lines on your statement. So we wait until it adds up to $5, then charge it once.

Where you can see it

Your Billing page shows what we saved you, what you owe so far, and the date of your next charge. Payments are handled by Paddle, our payment provider.

If a charge doesn't go through

If your card is declined, we try again a few days later. The savings stay owed until they are paid. If it keeps failing, contact us and we will sort it out with you.

Stopping any time

There are no contracts. Open your Billing page and remove your card. If you owe $0.50 or more, you settle that first. Then your card is removed and saving turns off.
